Thomas Heinrichs


Tom Heinrichs is Director of the Geographic Information Network of Alaska (GINA) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). He performs general and technical management, program development, and outreach for GINA. He has been instrumental in creating partnerships and joint projects between the University, agencies, and the private sector. Tom has operated satellite ground receiving stations in Fairbanks providing near-real-time imagery and products for more than 15 years and leads the NOAA High Latitude Satellite Proving Ground serving the National Weather Service and NOAA-NESDIS. He managed the project that created 1.7 million square kilometers of new satellite orthoimage maps for the entire state of Alaska; these maps are the highest accuracy ever produced for Alaska. UAF-GINA provides extremely popular open standards web mapping services, drawing a map to a use screen every second, 24x7. Tom holds a B.S. in Physics from Stanford and a M.S. in Geophysics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
